Dr Woffles Wu - An Singapore Icon In The Medical World

Dr. Woffles Wu Tze Liang, more commonly recognised as Dr. Woffles Wu, is perhaps one of the most prolific and innovative plastic surgeons in Asia. He is known for making waves and ground-breaking developments in the field of plastic surgery, as well as being a Singaporean art connoisseur and media personality.

No less than the Hong Kong Press has dubbed Dr. Wu as Asia’s Beauty Guru. Today, remains as one of the most sought after speakers on plastic surgery around the world.

Educational Background

Dr. Wu acquired his MBSS degree from the National University of Singapore while practicing paediatrics at the Changi General Hospital (formerly the Toa Payoh Hospital). He was a fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore and the Royale College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He worked as a plastic surgeon for 12 years at the Singapore General Hospital before setting up his own private practice at Singapore’s Camden Medical Centre.

In 1990, he won the Young Surgeon of the Year Award for his research on nasal anatomy. He also received the SEAMIC scholarship in the same year, giving him the opportunity to study under the best reconstructive and aesthetic surgeons in Asia.

Dr. Woffles Wu’s Philosophy on Plastic Surgery

To Dr. Wu, aesthetic surgery isn’t just about transforming or changing the physical appearance of a person for the sake of vanity. He believes that aesthetic surgery is a practice that integrates art, architecture, and medicine together.

He even stated that aesthetic or cosmetic surgery is like psychiatry with a knife. It not only gives you the power to remodel a person’s body or face. This field also enables surgeons to help people improve their self-esteem and social skills.

According to Dr. Wu, being an aesthetic surgeon in Singapore not only requires a high level of technical proficiency. To be a great surgeon, you also have to hold a great sense of responsibility and humility. This means that you have to properly perform a careful assessment through a series of interviews before accepting patients.

You have to know if your patients’ expectations are realistic, and if their motivations for the aesthetic surgery is justified or not. If you think your patient might be suffering from Body Dysmorphic Disorder, you must not take advantage of their vulnerability for the sake of money. Only when you understand this philosophy will you fully evolve as a plastic surgeon.

Techniques and Innovations

Dr. Wu is known to be one of the greatest innovators in the field of modern plastic surgery. He has invented techniques in Botox and fillers, as well as pioneered methods like the breast “stealth” scar and thread lift.

He has reinvented the concept of Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation (NSFR), and has even conceptualised its four pillars. He calls it his 4R Principle: Relax, Restore, Resurface, and Redrape. Basically. Dr. Wu uses synthetic fillers to restore the volume lost from the face. The skin envelope resurfaces by utilising non-ablative lasers, radiofrequency, and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL).

Perhaps one of Mr. Wu’s most renowned techniques to date is the Woffles Lift. This distinctive, non-surgical technique is done by injecting several lines of self-retaining barbed threats into the face and out through the scalp. The process allows the sagging tissues to elevate in a rather more natural direction.

The Woffles Lift is unique, as it removes the need for stitches in the skin. With this method, the fine needle would leave no permanent marks on the face at all. The resulting look is as natural and fine-looking as possible.

(Insert 4)

Unlike traditional facelifts that would take 5 hours, this procedure takes about 20 to 40 minutes only. It involves minimal bruising or swelling, and allows patients to recover in 24 hours or less. As the Woffles Lift rejuvenates without excising the skin, patients will be free to resume any of their activities immediately after the procedure.

The procedure is typically performed on people in their mid-30s to late 50s. It has even been successfully applied to patients in their 70s. With Dr. Wu’s technique, patients would be able to look up to 15 years younger. The Woffles Lift lasts for about 2 to 4 years. After this time, patents will need to book another procedure to recover their revitalised look.

Doctors from around the world all recognise the genius of the Woffles Lift. To help shape the field of plastic surgery, Dr. Wu conducts international workshops and lectures around the world.

Transforming the Face of Plastic Surgery as We Know It

Dr. Wu has built a steady career through the years. At the moment, he is still persistently developing other advanced, non-invasive techniques that would not just guarantee incredible results, but also minimise or even eliminate any form of scarring at all. His passion for beauty, form, and harmony makes him one of the best artists that the world has today.

IV Chemical Peel: A Different Kind of Chemical Peel

If you have done everything in the last few months and yet you have not noticed any significant change, it is time to step it up and go for a better facial.  There is a different kind of chemical peel in town and it will definitely give that smooth, supple, and even facial skin texture that you have been trying to achieve.

Done right and regularly, the VI chemical peel works wonders.  It basically gets rid of the damaged epidermis (outer layer of the skin) to produce a singular glow that would be the envy of money.  It has been proven to be an effective antidote to increasing age spots, hyper-pigmentation, and sun damage. It is also known to target fine lines and acne scars.  This is because it has the necessary ingredients like Phenol, TCA, Retinol A, and Vitamin C to get that firmer finish.  All have cleansing and anti-aging properties plus it is completely acid free making it less prone to cause skin irritation. The VI peel is the latest in chemical peel technology and based on reviews both on a practical and results-based level, this procedure will surely not disappoint. The important thing to note here is that you need a trusted doctor to do the procedure.
While the VI Peel might feel less intense than some other chemical peels that can be used at home the VI Peel yields greater product penetration and peeling effects on the skin.  It feels less intense most likely because the phenol solution that is used in the peel creates a numbing effect on the skin. This allows for the solution to be tolerated easily but don't let it deceive you into thinking it is safe for home use or that it is a gentle peel.  The ingredients are strong TCA, Salicylic, Phenol and should be monitored by a physician to ensure the peel is safe for your skin, considering your skin type, daily skincare regimen, other medications that might interact, allergies, etc.  Additionally, the VI Peel solution is a runny liquid that should be applied by a professional while your eyes are closed.  An inclusive procedure

While you need professional help to get a VI peel, the best thing about it is that it goes with practically any skin type.  Observable peeling takes three days at the most so this short downtime will allow you to go back to work after undergoing the procedure on a weekend.  What you just have to be careful with is how your skin reacts to the procedure.

Some reported responses include itchiness, dryness, and hyper-pigmentation and all are perfectly natural.  Just make sure you check in with your trusted doctor to get a solution or anti-histamine that can be an effective counter-weight to some natural side-effects. Among the most common reactions is hyper-pigmentation.
This is very common in patients with darker skin color. There are definite ways to help this condition along. The options include triluma, or a triple combination of retin A 0.1%, Hydroquinone 4%, and hydrocortisone 1%. This can help the darker appearance. Also with this you can do microdermabrasion which can be done at 1-2 week intervals. Repeating superficial chemical peels is another option that can also be done in between microdermabrasion at 1-2 week intervals. Staying out of the sun and wearing sunscreen is ultra important. The next time you have a peel you should have your doctor carry out a less aggressive peel. Don't worry though help is out there and this will pass.  Consulting a board certified Facial Plastic Surgeon is what I would recommend. We specialize in the face and neck and are better qualified to help you in this area. (Source)

 The results

The amazing results of the VI chemical peel cannot be denied.  Your facial skin will have that firm, youthful, attention-catching texture that you have been pining to have.  Typically three succeeding peels scheduled one month apart, this is one facial procedure that is truly worth the investment. Check with Cosmeticsurgeryclinic.com.com/about-dr-martin-huang now so you can both create the perfect VI peel dermaplan for you.

The Real Costs of Breast Augmentation in 2017

You may be looking at the mirror, thinking on having breast augmentation. Women and even men can get breast implants to make their breasts bigger and fuller.  That can be done for reconstructive purposes, such as after mastectomy for breast cancer, or for cosmetic reasons. However, before you undergo this procedure, you must think whether the benefits overcome its costs.   We list down a few things you need to consider below.

The cost of this operation is typically pegged at 3,525 USD - 9,200 USD, 6,450 USD in average. Costs depend on surgeon, geographic region, and the complexity of the procedure.   If you’re particular, the breakdown is as follows:
  • Saline $1000 or Silicone $2000
  • Medicare approved Facility $1000
  • Anesthesiologist MD/DO $600
  • Professional Fee $2000 - $3000
Breast augmentation is not cheap. Undergoing this procedure can cause a big gunk to your bank account.  Make sure to plan carefully!
Because it is a cosmetic procedure, health insurance usually doesn't cover breast augmentation, related complications or another surgery to revise the appearance of your breasts. (Source)

The procedure doesn’t only cost you money but it also costs a lot of time. The procedure only takes one to two hours. And like most surgeries, the general anesthesia would probably keep you in slumber and “pain-free”. However, the healing part is the tricky part.  The healing process of breast augmentation may take time. The surgeon will be cutting under the breasts, on the armpits, or around the nipples. This all depends on the type of patient, the type of augmentation, type of breast implant (read: ParagonMedical.com.sg/articles/breast-augmentation-choosing-the-right-implant) and the scope of augmentation.   This means that a patient would have to take it easy after the breast augmentation surgery. This may mean time away from work and other important affairs. It’s very important that a patient plans ahead regarding these matters before undergoing this procedure.

Perhaps, the biggest cost of breast augmentation is dealing with the changes that your body will undergo.
  • Changes in sensation in the nipple and breast
  • If you’re a mom, it may be harder to breastfeed
  • Breast augmentation can also affect you emotionally. Melancholic feelings can be due to medication, the trauma of undergoing surgery and pain.
  • Swelling and tightness can occur after surgery which allows the breasts to appear larger than the final result
  • Changes in posture have also been reported
The first weeks can be really difficult– physically and especially emotionally after any cosmetic surgery and breast augmentation is no exception. Although several factors may be involved causing this including underlying stress, medications, psychological tendencies, etc - many women experience a sequence of emotional feelings "Emotional Rollercoaster" following aesthetic surgery - but it does pass. (Source)
All in all, if you’re ready for breast augmentation despite the costs of the treatment, then by all means, do it! The surgery may be a great way to increase satisfaction and quality of life. Done successfully, this may be the best decision that you can make in your life. Read more

Laser Lipolysis: A Modern Twist to Liposuction

There is a new twist to traditional liposuction that has been the talk of the town lately.  Approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in October 2006, laser lipolysis is touted to be the best option for achieving the best liposuction benefits minus the latter’s invasive nature.   Laser lipolysis no longer uses a vacuum suction to remove fat.  Rather, it utilizes heat generated from fiber-optic lasers which ultimately takes care of melting body fat.  Apart from its enhanced body sculpting capability, laser lipolysis has been proven to promote other benefits as well.

Its Benefits

Laser lipolysis is now a commonly used and accepted modality for removal of unwanted fatty tissue. Since its United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in October of 2006, studies have continued to corroborate early clinical observations of decreased adiposity, shorter recovery times, and improved skin tightening. Throughout the last five years, we have discovered that laser lipolysis liquefies fatty tissue, coagulates small blood vessels, induces collagenesis with remodeling, and promotes tissue tightening. (Source)

Satisfying Results

Clinical results have overwhelming supported that laser lipolysis is as effective as liposuction in getting rid of unwanted fat.  Results also show skin tightening which counter the misconception that this type of procedure leaves your skin sagging unflatteringly.  The best part is that there has been no report of anyone suffering or dying from complications that this procedure might cause.

While such information should allay the fears of the public, some experts have still expressed their concerns about the procedure.   According to nih.gov, some clinicians cite it still involves a longer procedure and more adverse reactions. It is also claimed that there is lack of evidence supporting its superiority over the old procedure of liposuction. However, the future of laser lipolysis is not too bleak.  There is a whole new group of experienced surgeons who are receptive to this modern twist to liposuction.

Countering Apprehensions

On the other hand, surgeons already familiar with laser technology may more enthusiastically embrace laser lipolysis as an adjunctive tool to satisfy the growing demand for minimally invasive technologies that enhance body sculpting and skin tightening without disfiguring scars. (Source)
More and more surgeons are now opting for the minimally invasive laser lipolysis but it is best not to dismiss liposuction altogether.  In fact, many surgeons suggest a combination of the two for the best results.   There are two important things, however, that are imperative for you to do before you opt for any or both of these procedures.

  • First, do extensive research before deciding to go under the knife or laser for that matter.
  • Second, get an experienced doctor to do the job for you.
  • Third, know what is essential to do post-procedure.
Once you have all these down, achieving that wonderfully sculpted body through laser lipolysis and liposuction will not be a problem at all.

What is the New Science behind Non-Surgical Age Reversal?

Aging is a part of life. However most people still want to look young even though they continuously grow old. We see it in celebrities, politicians and even family members and friends. Plastic surgery helps many in achieving a more youthful glow even with the effects of aging. But with many patients preferring cosmetic procedures that do not take a long time to heal or see the effects, many plastic surgeons turn to non-surgical age reversal techniques to do the job. One of the latest trends in this area is the use of skin resurfacing treatments.

Skin Resurfacing is Commonly Preferred by Plastic Surgeons For Non-Surgical Age Reversal

Skin resurfacing is the newest technology for age reversal without the pain of surgery.
Minimize blemishes, treat sun damage & restore a more youthful, clear complexion. When your skin looks smooth, clear and even, this alone will enhance your appearance. Skin resurfacing encompasses a variety of non-surgical treatments designed to renew and revitalize skin with minimal downtime. (Source)
Most people usually prefer and request their doctors for skin resurfacing treatments to combat wrinkles, stretch marks and scars brought by aging. Others use it for acne, hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone.

There Are Many Skin Resurfacing Procedures To Combat Aging Effects

Skin rejuvenation and resurfacing can be achieved in a number of ways, ranging from laser, light and other energy-based treatments to chemical peels and other non-ablative methods. To truly see non-surgical age reversal, treatments are usually done in 4 to 6 sessions. (Source)
Many would think that that these are quicker and more efficient in achieving younger looks. Clinics usually use light and laser in their procedures. Aside from that chemical peels are used too. This article at Herworldplus.com talks about 4 chemical peels that help minimise pores and brighten skins.
Not only do these chemical peels cater to the curious cats amongst us, who are fascinated by weird beauty treatments, they actually work. Using an exfoliator two to three times a week to remove those dead skin cells sitting on the surface of your skin will help treat blackheads, acne and prevent wrinkles. Basically, you’re getting rid of the old and making way for the new. (Source)
With all of these benefits from skin resurfacing, particularly the benefit of non-surgical age reversal, many would indeed prefer this done. It is accessible. It is fast. And most of all, it is non-surgical and pain free. Read more

3 Things You Need to Know about Your Breast Implants

Here are three things you should remember about your breast implants.

1. You cannot use it to store illegal paraphernalia, namely, weapons and drugs. Don't even dare! Just recently, a Colombian woman has been arrested in Germany for smuggling cocaine weighing at least 2 pounds. The cocaine was found inside the woman's breast implants. The arrest happened during an inspection where the woman was found to have new surgery scars and was complaining of pain. This was the first time that an incident of such circumstance happened in Germany.
The woman then reportedly admitted to carrying the drugs, and was brought to a local hospital where doctors removed lumps of cocaine wrapped in plastic. The cocaine was worth $293,850 and was intended to go to Spain from Frankfurt, Germany, where the bust took place. (Source)
2. It is not advisable to sell your breast implants.

They may be cheaper because they're second-hand but they are not sterile. This is according to Antonia Mariconda, founder of The Safety in Beauty campaign. She said that once breast implants are removed from the body, they should be disposed of.
She's selling them for £200, which is about $250. Is that a deal? I mean, how much are the implants, and how much is the actual surgery? Like, I could buy these, but I'm assuming I need a doctor to put them in, and that feels like it might be the real expense in this scenario!? (Source)
3. Some breast implants have been found to cause a rare type of cancer called anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL).

It's a type of cancer that involves the immune system. It starts from the scar tissue that surrounds the implant. According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, there have 359 reports of cancer around the said implants. On the contrary, if you have gone through breast augmentation and do not feel any problem at all - you should not worry. According to reports, ALCL is quite rare. It is premature to worry about something that have more chances of not occurring that occurring.
That said, if you have breast implants and no problems, don't freak. After all, this type of cancer is still very rare: We're talking 359 cases among the estimated 399,000 who received breast implants for enlargement or reconstruction after breast cancer in 2016, alone, according to American Society of Plastic Surgeons stats. Plastic Surgery is the Latest Craze Among Millennial Men

The number of millennial men going under the knife has significantly increased. This is according to the study by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Among the top reasons for wanting to look younger include the desires to feel better about their personal selves, appear less stressed or tired, and to please their spouses or partners. About 42% of those who are in between the ages of 25 and 34 choose to go under the knife so they can remain competitive in the fields they chose.
Thirty one percent of men said they were extremely likely to consider a cosmetic procedure, either surgical or noninvasive, according to a survey conducted by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Among that 31 percent, 58 percent were from 25 to 34 years old and 34 percent were aged 18 to 24 years. Both age ranges are members of the millennial generation.
Many sees social media as a major contributor to this trend. With social media, many millennial men are able to see themselves in a different angle. And with filters being available, they get to see the better version of themselves. This is what they want to achieve when they decide to undergo a plastic surgery procedure.
The companies profiting from these procedures have taken note of the trend. "Attitudes toward aesthetics are changing, and there are two trends driving market expansion," William Meury, the chief commercial officer of Allergan Plc, maker of Botox, said during a press call in early May. "The first is a youth movement, with the 20- to 30-year-old segment expanding rapidly. The second is a male movement, with more interest by men in aesthetic procedures, and we expect these trends to accelerate over time."
Many plastic surgeons take advantage of this new trend that they are now marketing to men specifically. But plastic surgeons should think about the welfare of their patients first. If a plastic surgery is not going to be helpful to the patient in the long run, then it should not be rushed nor should be an option.
